GM, Ford & Chrysler CEO's Fly in Private Jets to Plead for Government Funds

As congressional hearings continue to determine the fate of GM, Ford and Chrysler; their CEO's are pleading for more cash to help stave off bankruptcy. So how did the top auto exec's get from Detroit to Washington DC? A caravan of latest hybrid's to come from their companies? First class seats on one of the nation's struggling airlines? Nope, the CEO's of the nation's "not so big 3" automakers each flew in one of their ailing company's corporate jets.

This is just my opinion, but that's a lot like being driven to the welfare office in a Maybach. Apparently, the major cutbacks that the automakers are implementing do not include cutting back on the fleet of 8 corporate jets that both Ford and GM maintain (according to them this is a non-negotiable necessesity).

ABC did a great piece on the subject. Click here to watch the video. Also, in the video, notice the car that Ford CEO Alan Mulally is getting out of at the airport, it looks a lot like Mercedes to me (I guess a Lincoln is not quite up to his standards either).

How much time is lost by the GM representatives when they have to check in for a flight two hours early, or when the GM representatives are not to talk about business during the flight due to insider trading concerns?

The question is what is lost? When 12 people fly on a private jet it costs about $20,000. When 12 fly commercially to DC it costs about $12,000. Is a $8,000 savings worth the time lost?

Isn't it really worth it in the long run?
